Mrs. Edna Roberta Sorrell went home to be with her Lord Jesus on September 30, 2017 just a few days before her 98th birthday on November 1st. She was the last of a generation of five daughters of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Whitehorn of Charleston, TN. Her children give testimony of a truly remarkable lady who was always a true example of a loving mother.
Mrs. Sorrell is survived by her sons, Robert L. Sorrell (Buna) of Collierville, TN and Jimmy W. Sorrell of Covington; her daughter, Beverly McIntyre (James) of Covington; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sorrell was preceded in death by her husband, Louis M. Sorrell; her parents, R. B. and Urela Whitehorn; and by her sisters, Annie May Richardson, Sarah Shoaf, Ester Wright, and Lucille Elam.
Her life indeed has been one of devotion to her Lord, her family, her friends, and her church, Charleston Baptist. She received Jesus Christ as her Savior of an early age and has routinely demonstrated a life of service to others. Her particular joy was to minister to the aging relatives and friends of the community.
Many will remember "Berta" during the years she worked at the former Ben Franklin Store on the Covington Square.
Visitation for Mrs. Sorrell will be 10AM-12PM Tuesday, October 3, with funeral services at 12PM, all at Charleston Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be sent to the Charleston Baptist Church Family Life Center 8624 Hwy TN-179 Stanton, TN 38069.
