Mr. John Edward Dickey, Sr., 94 of Covington, passed away on the evening of September 18, 2018. Mr. Dickey, the widower of Mrs. Margaret Lucille Redden Dickey and Clara Hall Dickey, was retired from Turner Dairy after 36 years where he worked as the Vice President and General Sales Manager. He was a faithful member of the Covington Church of Christ, serving as elder, teacher, friend and encourager. He was instrumental in the Church’s move in 1966 from Munford St. to its current location on Hwy. 51 and was active in the many building programs that followed. He was also a member and officer of the Covington Exchange Club.
Mr. Dickey was born in Humbolt, TN to John and Susie Dickey. They, along with his sisters Delores Grace and Mary DeLaune, and brother Lavaughn Dickey, predeceased him.
Mr. Dickey is survived by his daughter, Linda Gordon of Covington; his step-daughter, Kate Cummings Watkins (Glen) of Collierville; son, John Edward Dickey, Jr. (Debra) of Covington; step-son, John Hall Cummings (Carol) of Kansas City, KA; his guardian angel, Gail McCullough; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Dickey was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Pat Cummings Holmes (Jim.)
The services for Mr. Dickey will be held on Saturday, September 22, at 11 AM at the Maley-Yarbrough Chapel. Visitation will take place Friday night from 5-7 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Covington Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be sent to the Covington Church of Christ Building Fund or to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
