Mrs. Virginia P. Dillard, 100 of Covington, passed away on the evening of September 30, 2019 at Methodist North Hospital. The daughter of William Lee and Sophronia Harris Pence, Virginia was a graduate of Byars Hall High School in Covington and Draughs Business College in Memphis. Her 1st job was with the Old John Caston Hospital records department where she worked for 5 years. From there she went to Memorial Park Cemetery as a payroll clerk and service coordinator. She retired after 23 years as the secretary and treasurer of the company to marry the love of her life, L. Stanley Dillard, a well-known Shelby County Politician.
They were very active members of the First United Methodist Church of Memphis until it burned. While there Virginia served on the official board of directors and trustees and was president of the John R. Pepper Sunday School Class for almost 5 years. She and Stanley loved to travel and traveled extensively all over the country. After moving back to Covington she joined Elm Grove United Methodist Church where she grew up. She was well known for her generosity and she supported many charitable organizations. She wasn't a fan of cooking so she often took her family and friends out to eat.
Mrs. Dillard is survived by a multitude of family and friends. Mrs. Dillard was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. L. Stanley Dillard; her siblings, Jack Pence, Buelah Baskin, and Lorene Howard; and by her parents, William Lee and Sophronia Harris Pence.
Visitation for Mrs. Dillard will be held on Thursday, October 3rd, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the Maley-Yarbrough Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 12 with interment to follow in R. H. Munford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to the Elm Grove United Methodist Church.
