Charles Estes Byrd, 80, of Covington, TN passed away on February 3, 2023. Charles was born in Columbus, Georgia to the late Katie and Johnnie Byrd. He attended Bryars Hall where he was an avid sportsman and Captain of the football team, He graduated in 1961. Charles served in the United States Navy for 27 years and retired as a Master Chief. Upon his naval retirement Charles returned back to Covington Highschool to teach and later become head of the Math department. Charles taught for 20 years before he retired. After retirement he still continued to pour into children lives by being a tutor after school. Charles was an active member and Sunday School Director at Calvary Baptist Church of Covington. He enjoyed his daily morning walks with his dogs, most recently, Blinker. Charles loved to garden, golf and take his family RV Camping. He was avid sportsman who enjoyed watching and attending sporting event . Especially when his kids and grandkids were playing.He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Francine Byrd, their children; Teresa Mincks (Todd), John Byrd (Connie), Jim Byrd, his grandchildren; CJ Mincks(Karli), Kayla Daughtery (Pat), McKyla Byrd, Aaron Byrd, Nicole Byrd, Dominyque Byrd, his great grandchildren; Railea Mincks, Levi Mincks, Alex Wiseman, Chase Daugherty, Robi Daugherty, Easton Byrd, Brynleigh King, and his siblings; James Byrd (Deborah) , Jerry Byrd (Abby). Charles is preceded in death by his sibling, Flinn Byrd (Mary Ann).A Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 09, 2023 at Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home at 2:00pm with a visitation held an hour prior. Burial will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens.

Mr Byrd was by far my favorite teacher at CHS. He made a lasting impact on everyone his life touched. I will miss our little chats when he came to visit us! Rest easy, Mr. Byrd!!! Prayers of comfort and healing to his loved ones.
