Obituary

Geraldine (Geri) M. Wilson, 90, passed away on October 14, 2020 at home with family and one of her favorite hospice caregivers by her side. Geri was born on September 10, 1930 in Boston, MA, the second child of Joseph and Theresa Hobson. She graduated from Mission High School in 1948 and received a full scholarship to Regis College, which she turned down to begin her business career and to travel. She lived in Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Washington, Alaska, and finally Tennessee, where she moved to be closer to her daughter. She never lost her love of Boston.

Geri worked as a credit manager in Dallas and Seattle. During this time, she was married to David Wilson. She later attended Seattle University where she gained certification to work in the chemical dependency field. She was a chemical dependency counselor at Valley General Hospital and Lakeside-Milam, both in Washington, and at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, AK. When she retired, she had returned to Lakeside-Milam as an administrator at one of their outpatient facilities.

Geri had a love of theater and was active in plays when she was younger. She loved dancing, fine food, cooking, and music – from classical to country, gospel to musicals. She also loved poetry and to recite poems, including some she wrote as a young girl. Geri was raised in the Catholic Church which gave her a foundation for a strong Christian faith.

She loved to travel and had many adventures with her daughter, Lisa, and her brother, Donald. Her last big trips were to Shenandoah National Park – a place she always loved, and to the gulf coast where she enjoyed the ocean and sunsets.

Geri was loved by many and had deep friendships, especially with her sister Barbara, her ‘old’ friend Katie Pratt, and her high school friend Mary Cody. A woman of deep feeling, Geri shared both her opinions and her laughter. She loved cats – hers and her neighbors’. Her nephew, Steve Strazzulla, lived with her for five years, which allowed her to live in her home and maintain her independence longer.

Geri was interviewed by her daughter for a StoryCorps recording in 2019: (https://archive.storycorps.org/secret/QZ8wx97Mf9hGQqKWkx01xQ7QOhCNB0pra85mfL6iKWzK4av1vKxPQH7JEH5asGRJ3T4FjkQGsV7t7huUz3wyUVtb0Kx8NM8eZOGitgIJR1cBp0mC5DdPunpLaOyEI8DBRqdxNW0w).

Geri is survived by her son Mark Wilson (Glynis) of Santa Clarita, CA; her daughter, Lisa Wilson Rogers (Thomas) of Stanton, TN; her grandsons: Jason Wilson, Sean Wilson, and Torin Wilson; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Wilson; and her brother, Donald Hobson, all of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Theresa Hobson; her son, Colin Wilson; and her sister, Barbara Hobson.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date and will be live-streamed so that friends and family can attend. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or to StoryCorps.
