Jean Sloan Simonton, 73, passed away peacefully at her home in Covington, TN. Jean was a graduate of Byars Hall High School, Class of 64. She attended Murray State and Memphis State. Jean travelled extensively as a stewardess with Delta Airlines for several years before her marriage to “Skipper” Hugh Thompson Simonton Jr. After marrying they happily settled in Covington to raise their three sons, H.T. Simonton, Cory Simonton, and Hunt Simonton. Jean continued her education to become a nurse and later earned her nurse practitioner degree at Emory University. Jean enjoyed a long successful career as a nurse with the Covington Health Department and later retired from the West Tennessee State Penitentiary, where she was a nurse practitioner for 13 years. During her years of retirement Jean enjoyed traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, decorating, antiquing and knitting. Jean was a wonderfully kind, loving, and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, “Skipper” Hugh Thompson Simonton Jr.; her sons, H.T. Simonton, Cory Simonton, and Hunt Simonton; her sisters, Judy Sloan Ralph, Susan Sloan Jackson and Vicki Sloan Pate and her four grandchildren, Creed Simonton, Emma Simonton, William Simonton and Ella Simonton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hylda Harrison Sloan and Charles A Sloan.
