Obituary

Lewis James McCane Jr. passed away on August 6, 2022, at Methodist North Hospital, in Memphis, Tennessee.  Lewis was born in Logan, West Virginia to the late Lewis James McCane Sr. and Lila Jo Keel McCane.  They moved to Indianapolis when he was nine years old, and he later joined the Navy in 1974.  He was stationed at Millington Naval Base, where he later retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1996.  Mr. McCane decided to make Tipton County his home after his retirement.  Lewis’ service to the United States of America was filled with many tours.  He served on the USS Ranger, the Maiden Voyage of the USS Nimitz, and two tours of duty upon the USS John F. Kennedy, one of which was during Desert Storm.  Lewis also worked in the Telecommunications Industry for ten years, and he later served as a substitute teacher at Brighton High School for five years.

He was an accomplished musician, who loved to play hymns.  When he was not playing hymns you could find him playing Beatles music.  Lewis served as Praise Leader over the years at several churches, but his heart was at River of Life Assembly in Munford, TN., where he was a proud member.

Lewis leaves behind his loving wife of twenty-four years, Rosemary Wood McCane, two sons; Lewis James McCane III of Indianapolis, IN, Jason Lewis McCane of Brighton, TN., one sister; Rhonda Tharp of Indianapolis, IN., five nieces; Grace Wood, Elizabeth Robinson, Angie Burgess, Joyce Esguerra, and Dawn Armstrong, one great niece; Amanda Newcomb, two nephews; Richard Craig and Jerry Williams; and one cousin that was more like a brother; Phillip McCane.  He leaves behind many more family members.

A memorial service, with full Military Honors at River of Life Church, in Munford, TN., will be held on August 26, 2022 at 10:00 A.M.
