Obituary

Mrs. Maggie Mermelle Covington, 97, of Covington, passed away on September 20, 2021, at her residence. Mrs. Covington, the widow of Mr. William Glenn Covington, was a secretary for First State Bank and attended Elm Grove United Methodist Church with her daughter Linda and Johnny.  After graduation from Haywood High School, she attended Freed-Hardeman University for one year, and later received certificates from the American Institute of Banking.  She loved her little country church, she loved her family dearly, and most of all she loved the Lord. 

Mrs. Covington is survived by her son, William Corliss "Corky" Covington (Sarah) of McKinney, TX; her daughters, Glenda Covington Rodgers (Bill) of Stuart, FL and Linda Covington Bishop (Hunter "Johnny") of Burlison; her brother, Joe Bryan (Joe B) Guinn of Brownsville; her sister, Martha Lou Kirby of Brownsville; many nieces and nephews; her best friend, Gail Johnson; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and her caregivers, Judy Rhodes and Donna Jones. Mrs. Covington was preceded in death by her sister, Iris Louise Bryant; and by her granddaughter, Melanie Jane Bishop Bennett. 

A graveside service will be held for Mrs. Covington on Sunday, September 26th, at 2:00 at the Trinity Cemetery in Nutbush, TN. 

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for memorials to go to the charity of your choice, to help someone in need since that is what she would want you to do, to plant a tree in her honor, or for the Tennessee council of the blind.
