Obituary

Olean Branch Lavelle  Date of Birth-June 26, 1932    Date of Death  March 3, 2022

Olean was married to Ennis O. "Buddy" LaVelle for 71 years, marrying January 13, 1951, in Hernando, MS.  She leaves behind her husband, Ennis; a daughter, Lynn LaVelle Sanders, married to Doyle Sanders of Atoka, TN.  She also leaves two grandsons, Jordan B. Sanders and wife, Lindsey, of West Dundee, IL, and Jake Sanders and wife, Amanda, of Memphis, TN.  Olean leaves behind a sister, Annette Gilbreath, married to Billy, of Burlison, TN.  She leaves behind nieces Pam Branch, Sharon Wadsworth, Susan Eason and their families, and nephews Clay Gilbreath and Greg Gilbreath and their families.  She also leaves behind Catherine Baskin Moore and a cousin, Jane LaVelle Spray, who were very dear friends.

Olean was preceded in death by her only son, Ken LaVelle; her parents, Marvin and Lola Baskin Branch, and two brothers, Milton Branch and Pete Branch.

Olean was a lifelong member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Burlison, TN.  She had a beautiful Soprano voice and loved singing with her Smyrna Choir family.  Olean had taken voice lessons from a very early age at the request of her father, who loved gospel music.  She loved using her voice to honor her Lord and Savior.  For many years she taught younger children in Sunday School.  She was also a member of the Women's Missionary Union, the Golden Agers Group, and assisted with Vacation Bible School in her younger years.

Olean was a talented seamstress and sewed dresses and clothing during Lynn's childhood.  She raised a garden and loved growing tomatoes.  She loved feeding hummingbirds from her porch, hosting hundreds of hummingbirds over the years.  A favorite pasttime of Olean's was camping, which she and Buddy started when their children were five and nine years old.  Camping continued from 1964 until 2008 and eventually included their grandsons, Jordan and Jake.

Olean will be missed greatly by her family.

At her request, the funeral and memorial service for Mrs. LaVelle are private.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the charity of the donor's choice.
