Zane Morrison Hill, Sr (Big Z) was a lifelong resident of Brighton. He graduated from Brighton High School where he was an outstanding basketball player and overall athlete. He attended Erskine College in Due West. South Carolina, and left college to enlist in the U. S. Marine Corps. This began his 38 years of federal service, including work as a firefighter and United States Postal Service mail carrier. Zane was an avid sports fan and a dedicated University of Tennessee fan of all sports, through good times and bad. He was a hiker, fisherman, and accomplished horse racing handicapper. He loved old movies, all music, golf, and SEC football. He was raised in the Brighton Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, as was his entire family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joy, his constant companion and love of his life. Zane loved his family and the old Hill homeplace where he lived and raised his three sons, Zane Morrison (Tina) Hill, Jr., Casey Joe Hill, and Jonathan Earl (Wendi) Hill. He is also survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Zane leaves his loved ones with a lifetime of memories full of kindness, compassion for the less fortunate, and a sense of humor that goes unmatched. Zane was preceded in death by his siblings, Franklin Maynard Hill, Marvin Earl Hill, Jr., and Jean Hill Chisolm.
HIs family has planned a private graveside service Monday morning (March 23) at the Salem Cemetery, with Rev. Tim Phillips providing a prayer, Rev. Meredith Cavins providing a message, and Mattalee Hall reading scripture.
